Walls Closing In...Socks Can't Escape...

We spent today (Wednesday 10, September) checking out Volterra. It is a beautiful walled city and we spent the day just roaming around. There are ruins of a Roman Teatro here (used the other camera so no pictures yet...sorry) and a lot of really beautiful scenery. The weather here...unlike Rome...is wonderful and we are enjoying walking around and not sweating. Tomorrow we go to Florence with Annie and Francesco to do all of the final paperwork...only three more days!!!

Wine, beer, proseco and socks....

Sunday 7, September: We relaxed like true Romans today. We walked (used the new short cut...thank you Enrico!!) to Villa Borghese Park, enjoyed the cooler (you can't call it cool) weather and had lunch. I managed to purchase shorts yesterday, so of course today...it rained! Jim said it was really more like taking a hot shower! It was very fun and relaxing...we felt very Italian on our last day in Rome.

Monday 8, September: Ciao, ciao Roma! We are off to Volterra. After a little trouble actually finding the train station we had a beautiful ride through Tuscany. Jim followed along on the map verifying each stop. We changed trains in Cecina...a very small town, and took a very short (1 car!!) train to Volterra. We caught a bus a couple of minutes later and here we are!

We finally got to meet "my Annie" in person and also "her better half" Francesco and little Sophia. (And the sweater was perfect ...I know everyone was waiting to see. They are wonderful and showed us all over town. We had beer and Bellinis at a small bar and got to know each other and they opened the gifts. Then we had wine at the wine bar down the street and they introduced us to the owners. Then we had proseco and tried (we've had three drinks already!!) to pick out the Wedding dinner menu with the chef and owner of the restaurant (he is renowned in the area!!). We were honored to taste the first bottle of this year's wine harvest while his wife fed us bread and parmesian cheese ( he was feeding parmesian cheese to his dog...a truffle hunter in training). We didn't leave to eat dinner until 9...it was wonderful!
