We made it to the home country! After a fun filled day preparing for departure (more on that another post), we got up at 3 A.M. and headed for the airport. After a long flight we arrived in Italy. We only lost three pieces of luggage and two members of the group (all have been found at the time of this post). Our hotel is an old palazzo...the front door is built big enough for a carriage to drive through. (I will be adding pictures of all of this so stay tuned...I just now found the port to hook up the camera!!!). The rooms are beautiful.
Rome however is hot...and not just in the good-looking sense of the word. We have already seen the Trevi Fountain, had gelato, climbed the Spanish Steps, had graniti, visited the Hard Rock Cafe, saw the Crypt of the Capuchin Monks, had a beer, went back to the Trevi Fountain and had another gelato!!! It's hot (molto caldo!!) ...get the idea!
Today, Tuesday September 2nd, we went and visited Jim's Uncle Jim (hmmm...a lot of Jims) house in Nettuno. He took us to the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery , a memorial for the soldiers killed in WWII. It is beautiful and very interesting. We had a wonderful
seafood lunch and walked on the beach. No, not Jim, the beaches in Italy also have sand!
